CSR is fundamental to KIPAY, therefore we do not have a dedicated department, it’s the core of all our activities going through the entire organization. It is a global trend that the energy sector are putting CSR, climate change and environmental protection at the centre of their business strategy.

Our policy contains the basic principles that we will follow in order to live up to our corporate social responsibilities. It provides a framework to put these principles into practice, and allocates responsibility for all our activities.

* KIPAY is committed to sustainable value-creation for our shareholders, other stakeholders, and the communities where we operate. As an energy producer, our intended installations will impact the lives of a large number of people.

* KIPAY believes the private sector in DRC can be a driving force for social development and environmental protection.

* Through developing profitable business and active engagement with local communities, we aim to ensure that our business practices contribute to long-term economic and social development. We will work with government and civil society to define roles and responsibilities for social development.

At the opening ceremony for the work for Sombwe HPP November 2019, the director of ICCN Dr Cosma Wilungula welcomed the project in the vicinity of the Upemba Park.

“Hydroelectric power is clean energy that we can capitalize on in the sense that it can be useful both for our communities and for the Upemba Park. With increased global warming and climate change, ICCN is convinced that clean energy is one of the major assets that actively contribute to fight climate change “.

Social development is at the core of Kipay’s mission. Thus we have taken the responsible decision to begin to engage as early and as transparently as possible with the communities who will be most affected by the hydropower project at Sombwe – in particular the village of Kalera.

In this way, Kipay will ensure that those communities, most of whom are living on or below the poverty line, have a proper understanding of the complex and lengthy process of construction that will shortly get underway. This will help to create trust and clear communication between local stakeholders & the company and both will reap the benefits once the dam is completed.
